“SHOW ME” HOW MUCH YOU LOVE UNSTRAIGHT’S FIRST SINGLE ON 2/17
Unstraight is delighted to release their very first single, “Show Me”, to the airwaves and Internet this January 2017, and to everyone’s eager ears and dancing feet on Friday, February 17th at Out of the Blue Gallery (541 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA) at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available for cash purchase at the door. Boston Emissions (every Sunday on WZLX) had the exclusive first play of the single, and it has been at #1 for three weeks! Listen to/love/download “Show Me” at unstraightmusic.com or listen to it under a live show video compilation at youtube.com/watch?v=j_Fg_CCVCvc.
Opening for national touring acts such as Hunter Valentine at the Middle East Downstairs, playing the Boston Dyke March and various various Prides on both coasts, and its strong social media presence have brought dedicated groups of Unstraighters to shows for over three years. As a result, this single release has been very much anticipated. Unstraight’s alternative rock with a punch of riot grrl and a splash of electronics never loses its allure–think Garbage meets Sleater-Kinney.
Unstraight strongly believes in the greater presence of women, gender-nonconforming people, and LGBTQ people in music as there is currently a dearth, and our own all-queer, all-women members as well as many of the shows we put on exemplify and push forward this goal. Our annual BIG QUEER SHOW, scheduled for Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 at Thunder Road (379 Somerville Avenue, Somerville, MA) not only features queer people in music but also works with various GLBT community groups to table and run activities to spread more awareness about what they offer. We are smashing the barriers of the often-heard “you were really good for girls” toward actual equality and a world where we are remarkable for our music and passion and not for the novelty of having women or queers onstage. At our shows, we welcome all who welcome all.
