Larry Zarella
Chief Sagamore
Larry
has been singing and playing guitar since he was a teenager in the
small town of Sagamore Ma. After high school, a
semester at Berklee, and playing the bar scene on
Cape Cod, he traveled west to Colorado then onto Alaska to live the
dream of building his own log cabin. "We're not talking about a log
cabin kit " he says "I dreamed of cutting down the trees, peeling
the bark, notching the corners.....I wanted the whole back breaking
experience." Not to mention without electricity, phone, running
water, or even a road to get there. "It was only a half hour paddle
across the lake to the building site in summer and quicker on skis
in the winter. I don't like paying rent, so I carved out my own
shack in the woods, I love it there." It was in that cabin in those
woods where Larry wrote most of his songs. They range from sex,
drugs and rock & roll (Mushrooms and Bananas. Denali Cooks) to the
peace and solitude of 'Quiet Life' (from his latest CD 'No Place
Special').
As a solo artist, he has opened for many national touring acts,
including, The John Butler Trio, Todd Snider, Janice Ian, Dan Bern,
Chris Smither, Susan Werner and Luce.
5 albums, 2 bands, 4 pick-up trucks and 16 yrs
later.....Larry is back on the
East Coast, playing his songs wherever he can for whoever will
listen.
