SONG SPOTS NEEDED (these will be recorded or re-recorded for
the production - you may pitch finished productions for review,
simple/rough demos, even unfinished song sketches...). These
songs are primarily for a female character - a white singer who
finds her 'soul' as the story progresses - keep the film's time
period in mind:
* Song #1: General "society" band schmaltzy tune - lyrically
general, bland love theme
* Song #2: Bluesy/slow shuffle or cool swing groove -
lyrically a cry for happiness and fulfillment
* Song #3: Broadwayish torch song - general and benign in
theme
* Song #4: Bluesy but melodic with a great hook - lyrically
about finding the right person, big passionate burning romance
* Song #5: Energetic 12 bar blues shuffle with scatting
solos in middle - lyrically about the magic of being true to
yourself and what a party life can be
* Song #6: a replacement for Billie Holiday's "God Bless
The Child" in sound and theme
GENERAL MUSIC:
Period music
from 1948-1952 - New York jazz, society bands, Coleman Hawkins/Thelonious
Monk, Louis Jordan - Billie Holiday type R&B, NY’s Café
Society/Copacabana Club, etc.
NEW SONGS and
RECORDINGS that reflect the ‘period’ in its production and sonic
approach – either in its authenticity to the instrumentation of
the times or a modern homage to the period ( think “small band”
- ex: drums/piano/bass/sax, etc.).
NEW R&B music
that reflects a coming together across racial divides - unified
dreams of equality - talents that cross boundaries - etc...
(think Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, etc.)... music can blend
classic Jazz/R&B sounds with modern beats and styles...
