Mote o Dust Suspended in a Sunbeam (single – piano)

Mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam
a 2-track single:
1) Piano solo
2) piano and electronic ambient pads
Duration: 4:00
Release: 26 July 2017

Mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam was composed in Bremen (Germany) on 30th January 2017, shortly after knowing about the death of Uwe Kolkmeyer, musician and caricaturist to whom it is dedicated in memoriam.

The title refers to a thought by Carl Sagan: planet earth is a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. An old idea that, of course, was not expressed by him for the first and only time. In Sufism exists an allegory (attributed to Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi) according to which the essences of the possible beings do exist in the darkness before being manifested by the divine light, as the motes of dust suspended in the air in a darken room don’t become visible until they are lit by a light ray.

A certain optimistic atmosphere in this work may surprise, the opposite of what is usually associated with death. In my works the tonality of A major often expresses consolation.

Saxophonist Daniel Bennett blends Mozart and American Folk in ‘Whitman at the Whitney’ theater production

“Whitman at the Whitney” is a new theater production about the great American poet Walt Whitman. This multimedia production features dramatic readings of Walt Whitman’s poetry, set to the music of the Daniel Bennett Group.

The show runs at the Whitney Museum of American Art (99 Gansevoort St, New York, NY) on Saturday, August 26th (1PM), Saturday, August 26th (4PM), Sunday, August 27th (1PM), and Sunday, August 27th (4PM). The show is directed by theater visionary Jim Furlong. Furlong is the Director of Arts at the Hudson Guild Theatre in New York City. The show is co-produced by Greg Trupiano, Artistic Director of The Walt Whitman Project.

The show features images of artwork from the Whitney Museum. Saxophonist Daniel Bennett has collaborated with Jim Furlong on past productions. Bennett recently composed and arranged the musical score for stage adaptations of “Frankenstein” and “Brave Smiles” at the Hudson Guild Theatre. Bennett’s musical soundtrack for “Whitman at the Whitney” features the unique instrumentation of woodwinds and banjo. Daniel Bennett (woodwinds) is joined by Mark Cocheo on banjo.

The repertoire is opera excerpts by Verdi, Mozart, and other prominent classical composers. “Walt Whitman was a huge fan of classical music and American folk music. The eclectic nature of the soundtrack is perfect for this show,” says Bennett. Daniel Bennett is no stranger to unusual musical productions. He currently plays woodwinds in ‘”Blank! The Musical,” the first fully improvised Off-Broadway musical to launch on a national stage.

The show is produced by Second City, Upright Citizens Brigade, and Improv Boston. “Whitman at the Whitney” is an adventurous theater production that will challenge and entertain audiences of all ages. The show is free and open to the public.

ALEXANDER JEAN, Featuring BC JEAN & MARK BALLAS, To Launch Highly Anticipated 2nd EP June 26

ALEXANDER JEAN, Featuring BC JEAN & MARK BALLAS, To Launch Highly Anticipated 2nd EP June 26

Responding to public demand for a follow up to their hit debut EP, “Head High,” the husband and wife team of Alexander Jean, featuring BC Jean and Mark Ballas, will initiate a national tour starting June 26 to coincide with the release of their much anticipated second EP, “High Enough.” The tour, teams Alexander Jean with Los Angeles Pop Rock band R5.

Venue competition for the highly anticipated double-act tour stems from the unique success of the indie duo’s initial EP which shot to #1 on iTunes’ Singer/Songwriter chart and then rose to the chart top a second time. Their power-pop ballad and debut single “Roses and Violets,” also hit #1 on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart and #6 on the iTunes overall chart, reaching the Top 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100 “Bubbling Under” chart. The song had over 3 million Spotify plays and reached Top 10 in 7 countries around the globe. Their single “Thief,” hit #5 on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart.

Describing the nature of the chemistry which brought such immediate interest to their act, BC and Mark note, “We’re inspired daily by each other and what the universe is so gracious to give our minds and souls. We want to capture something timeless while still keeping it raw.”

For “High Enough” the duo says, “We simplified our writing and production this time around, but it oddly enough has created a bigger sound. Sometimes less is more and every song on this EP is a major statement. There are so many different emotions involved throughout the 5 song journey and everyone can relate to it their own way however it connects to them.”

BC and Mark, who wed in November 2016, started writing and forming melody ideas for “High Enough” while still on tour last summer for “Head High.” “We do it in pieces rather than scheduled sessions for the writing part. It’s more about capturing the magical moments as they come,” the duo says. “We then took our songs to the countryside of England to work with our producer, Will Hicks. It was the three of us, our dog Hendrix and large empty fields of grass and sheep. We wanted to escape so we could focus.”

“High Enough,” shines with the duo’s trademark style of a blend of acoustic, rhythmic, singer/songwriter, pop/rock with a timeless feel. “We are aware of what’s current right now and we always keep that in mind so every generation has the chance to connect to our musical stories but at the end of the day we write what we feel which is emotional, honest and liberating. We want to make people feel something whether it’s hope, strength, romance or empowerment.”

“High Enough,” will be available June 26 on iTunes, Spotify and all other major digital music platforms.
R5 Tour featuring Alexander Jean, will kick off June 26 at Chicago S Bottom Lounge and continues on to Detroit, Toronto, Boston, Darien Lake NY, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Charlotte, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas and Austin. (Full schedule listed below.)

ABOUT ALEXANDER JEAN
Indie duo, Alexander Jean, featuring BC Jean and Mark Ballas, are creating the freshest, most honest, heartfelt music of their careers. The duo first met in 2012 at a Los Angeles singer-songwriter showcase, and then married in 2016. Their debut EP titled “Head High,” debuted at #1 on iTunes’ Singer/Songwriter chart, and then rose to #1 again for a second time. Their power-pop ballad and debut single “Roses and Violets,” also hit #1 on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart and #6 on the iTunes overall chart; reaching the Top 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100 “Bubbling Under” chart. The song had over 3 million Spotify plays and reached Top 10 in 7 countries around the globe. Their single “Thief,” hit #5 on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart.

Alexander Jean was recently listed in Billboard Magazine’s “DeLeon 100,” a list of Top 100 Trailblazers who display determination to bring their expertise to #thenextlevel. The duo was also named “KIIS FM Next Up Artist of the Week,” performed at Sundance Film Festival’s 2017 Creative Coalition event. In 2016, they completed a 21 date U.S. tour, “Head High,” sponsored by Nicorette and Nicoderm; made their SXSW debut in as an official showcase artist; and were tapped to perform at BMI’s 2016 annual “Snow Ball” event at Sundance, where they received a standing ovation, in addition to a stripped down, intimate set at the much-coveted Chef Dance. Alexander Jean was also chosen as one of three acts, from nearly 600 artist submissions, to perform at the 3rd Annual L.A. GRAMMY Showcase at The Fonda Theatre.

Both BC and Mark are multi-faceted singers and songwriters with lists of accolades in the music world. BC became an in-demand artist and songwriter when Beyoncé recorded “If I Were A Boy,” which she wrote. A worldwide #1 smash, the song – the only track Beyoncé didn’t write on her double CD I Am…Sasha Fierce – was one of the most played songs of 2009. It topped the charts in many European countries (including the UK) and reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100

How to Market Your Private Tutoring Lessons

Private tutoring is all about word of mouth. That word of mouth doesn’t work if you have no one to spread around how great you are, though. If you’re just starting out in the private tutoring lessons and don’t have anyone to help get your name out there, or maybe you moved to a new area and don’t know anyone there yet, then you’ll want to figure out the best marketing strategies to get your private tutoring lesson business off the ground.

Here’s how to market your private tutoring lessons business to get you the most clients and plenty of word-of-mouth referrals.

What’s in a Name

Think about the other businesses that you frequent. What makes you remember their name? Something short and to the point usually works. You might think just using your name like Bob Wright’s Tutoring is enough, but is it catchy and memorable enough? What if you have a name that’s hard to spell or pronounce?

Something catchy, clever, and memorable is going to catch people’s eyes. Usually when parents begin looking for a tutor for their child, it’s because they need to bring their child’s grade up and fast. They are doing quick searches and making quick decisions. You want to stand out. A catchy name and logo will help you accomplish this.

Have a Website

People look for companies on the internet. You need to create a website, but you can’t just make it and think that’s it. You need to promote your website and help it move to the top of search engine pages. Search engine optimization (SEO) is very important. You can hire someone to do this or you can do it yourself.

List your business with search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Add yourself to list services in your area, such as Angie’s List, Yelp, and craigslist. Have a blog as part of your website and write frequent high quality posts.

You can also have other people guest blog for you, and you yourself should guest blog on other blogs too. Make sure they’ll allow you to link back to your blog. Have an SEO plugin on your website and use keywords on your blog posts. It’s important to use high quality keywords to get the search to go to your page.

Advertise

Your website is an important digital advertising tool. You might also want to have a Facebook page for digital advertising. However, nothing really beats good old-fashioned paper marketing for this type of business. Create flyers and put them on people’s cars when they park in parking lots. Go places where parents will be, like the grocery store, Karate, schools, parks, etc.

Make up business cards and put them on bulletin boards; hand them out whenever you possibly can. Place them in strategic shelves in the library near the subject you are going to be tutoring in. Add a magnetic decal to your car.

Contact the local schools and introduce yourself to teachers. Parents will often ask teachers for suggestions of tutors when their children are struggling. Get your business card in the teacher’s hand and they will pass it on to the parents when asked.

Getting your name out there in every possible way is going to be important in reaching out to those who are in need of private tutoring lessons. Don’t ever stop advertising. You can ask current clients for referrals, but you’ll need to continue to work other outlets.

Having more work than you can handle is better than not enough. Get to know other area tutors so you know who to send the overflow to when your schedule gets too full.

Five Tips for a Successful Private Lessons Business

Teaching private lessons in music or art can be a great way to make extra cash. You might have a lot of people asking you to show them how to do something that they know you’re good at. However, you might be hesitant to start because oftentimes teaching someone else how to do what you do can be a difficult task.

Here are five tips for starting a successful private lesson business from your home.

1. Building Your Clientele

There are many different ways you can work when you’re giving private lessons. One option is to work in a music or art store providing lessons. Beware of any rules the store might have about who owns your list of students, though, so if you ever want to go off on your own you can know whether you can take your students with you or not. You can also teach in home at the student’s house or at your house, or teach in a studio that you own or rent.

If you work in a store then ideally the store will provide you with your clientele. When you’re on your own, (either in your home, your clients’ homes or your own studio) you have to advertise. Word of mouth will likely be how you start, but you’ll need to keep it going with frequent flyers and mailings to people where possible, and perhaps using social media outlets to drum up business.

2. Giving the First Lesson

The first lesson is an important one. This is what’s going to set the tone for the rest of your time with your student. It’s imperative that you make a good first impression. Prior to the lesson, gather some information such as the age of your student, previous experience working in whatever medium you’re working on with the student, and any special considerations you’ll need to know about.

Make sure they are prepared for the lesson, and make it very clear what’s needed prior to that first lesson. Allow parents to sit in for the first lesson and find out what the student’s goals are that they hope to achieve from the lessons. How you approach things is going to depend on the information that you gather, but you need to make it fun so they want to come back and want to do well.

3. Tailor Lessons to the Individual

Not everyone is going to need the same thing. One-on-one lessons are basically tutoring sessions and must be tailored to fit the needs of the individual. It’s not at all like teaching a class of multiple students. You can work on the individual’s weaknesses and build on the individual’s strengths to really give the student a great foundation.

There are no set-in-stone priorities you have to accomplish. You can ask the student what they are working on and see how you can build on that to improve that particular skill. Remember, if you’re doing what the student wants and providing them with what they need, then they are going to keep coming back for more.

4. Notes and Records

You need to keep thorough notes and records of progress that is made, and also from a financial standpoint. From a bookkeeping perspective, it’s good to keep track of how often a student attends lessons and what was paid and when. From a teaching standpoint, taking notes of what was worked on in each lesson and what was done well and what needs more work, will help focus on what you need to do for the next lesson.

Notes and records are especially important if you have multiple students; you don’t want to rely on your memory in this case, because you might end up repeating things over and over again.

5. Always Be a Student Yourself

Never stop learning yourself. There’s a reason that doctors and lawyers say they practice their fields; they are always learning new things. Well, the same can be said about anything. You should always be building and honing your own skills. This will make you a desirable tutor and help you to build your business. It’s also going to help take out the monotony if you continue to learn and build on your own personal skills and expertise.

Private lessons are a sought-after service, mostly for children. You can really create a lucrative business teaching others and it will feel good too. Following these five tips will make it so much easier and profitable for you.

A Guide for Tutors, Art and Music Teachers to Set Rates

When you are giving private art, music, or tutoring lessons, you might be struggling with how to determine what to charge for your services. You don’t want to charge too little so that people either don’t take you seriously or you get too many people and can’t serve everyone. You also don’t want to charge too much so people will avoid you like the plague.

Finding the right balance is difficult. Here’s a guide for what to do when choosing your rates for your tutoring, art, or music lesson business.

Where Do You Give Lessons?

When determining your fee, you need to factor in where you’re giving your private lessons. If you are giving them in your home, then you probably won’t need to charge as much as you would if you drive out to people’s homes to give lessons, or even if you have to rent a separate space to give lessons.

You’ll need to factor in these costs when coming up with your rate. Once you have included the cost for you to travel or to rent a space, you can follow the steps to setting your rates for your tutoring, art, or music business.

Steps to Determine Your Private Lesson Rates

1. Check what other art teachers, music teachers and tutors are charging for their services in the same area you intend to work in. If there are no lessons being provided in your area similar to what you’re going to provide, then you can judge by what other enrichment programs are charging. You don’t need to let these lessons dictate your rates, but it’s a good jumping-off point.

2. Determine what you need to make to be comfortable. Not only will this help you set your rates, but it will also help you see how many students you’ll need in order to make the income you’re comfortable making.

3. What education do you have? Experience is important, but a degree is easy to prove and sometimes people are willing to pay more for someone who has a degree. Your education has value so if after you see what other teachers are charging in your area, you might be able to charge a little more if you can offer up qualifications that are greater than someone else’s.

4. Charge the same fee for everyone. It doesn’t matter if it’s a friend or a family member; if you are going to be creating a business, then you need to use the same rates for everyone. Otherwise word gets out that you’re charging different prices for others and that won’t be good for business.

5. Don’t offer family discounts. It might be tempting to do, but your time is worth the same whether you teach one of their kids or multiple kids.

6. Your rates should not stay constant forever. You will need to raise your rates at some point. This may cause you to lose students, but chances are that if you are good at what you do, then people will be willing to pay the increased cost.

It’s time to raise your rates if you have a full roster, you have been doing it for two years without an increased fee, and you are below the rate for teachers with the same degree and qualifications as you.

The most important thing to remember when you’re setting your rates for your tutoring, art, or music instructions is to value your worth. Your time is worth something, so don’t let people talk you out of your rates. If they aren’t interested in paying you what you have set, don’t jump to conclusions that this means that you’re overcharging for your services.

Rising Nigeria Rapper De Boss To Release First Official Album In June

Budding Nigerian rapper De Boss is soon to release his first ever official album “The Scrutiny” in June. The album is all about inspiring people to speak the hard truth.

Texas, USA – May 12. Great news for rap fans looking forward to something cool this summer- rising Nigerian rapper De Boss has announced to release his first official album in June that will set the feet tapping to a refreshing bunch of energized tracks. Entitled as “The Scrutiny”, the album aims to introduce a new era that upholds the fundamental humane values of honesty and integrity.

The official date of release is June 16 and the pre-order will start from June 9th. The album will be available for download on iTunes, Google Play and all other major online audio platforms. The album is produced by David Metropolis, Rj Full Range, RawzGotBeats and Peewezel-Cue as well as the singer himself.

“I am excited to announce the launch of my first official album come June. I had some of the singles released earlier but to release a full-fledged album is a different experience altogether. It’s like a dream come true for me. I hope this means a happy summer for those who listen to me- and for those who haven’t listed to me yet- I am looking forward to be their new favorite with my new album”, stated De Boss whose tracks are already shooting the charts of iTunes for quite some time now.

More popular by his stage name De Boss, Chinedu Moses Chukwunta is a 31-year-old Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter and producer. His unique music style is an eclectic versatile blend of R&B and Hip Hop, accentuated by Reggae hints. Presently based in the States, he is one of those few people who haven’t forgotten their Nigerian roots and actually does rap music.

“The Scrutiny” houses 10 tracks from the promising rapper. The tracks feature some of the big shots from the contemporary hip-hop scene like Young Buck, Olivia Rose Wallace, Samini, K-Slick and Tammy T & Rugged Man. De Boss has collaborated with renowned G-Unit CEO Tony Yayo and one other from the esteemed company for his album. The second track of the album, “Diamonds” features Tony Yayo himself.

Some of the tracks from the album have already amazed fans at iTunes. The most popular of these are Salewa (feat.Samini) and Cuba Libre.

“It’s timeless and I listen to the track everyday”, reads on happy review for Salewa on iTunes.

“Fire!”- Another ardent Salewa fan was bang on spot.

Speaking further the rapper claimed that it’s the unreal hypocritical world around that urged him to come up with “The Scrutiny”.

“People have become so unreal in our everyday life. They don’t mean what they say, leading all of us into a vicious circle of lie and blasphemy. So, I felt that somebody has to come up with the truth and thus we brought the album to life.”

The album will be released with a gala party on June 16, at EASTDOWN WAREHOUSE, Houston, TX.
