New Lovecraft Inspired Project Unites Futurist Musicians from Around the World via New Leaders of the Eldritch Cult
23 November, 2016 (Portland, OR, USA) The trend in the arts to embrace the works of H. P. Lovecraft as a source of inspiration has spawned a new movement, Lovecraftian Futurism. This recent artistic direction merges aesthetics drawn from Italian Futurism of the early 20th Century with those of the dark, foreboding narratives of Mythos-related literature and film. One of the groups spearheading this art movement is a collective of creatives whose members are spread throughout the world, called the New Leaders of the Eldritch Cult.
This conglomeration consists of directors, actors, visual artists, writers, and more, but is primarily made up of composers and performers of dark ambient music. With members residing in Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South America, the U.K., the U.S., and more, the New leaders of the Eldritch Cult genuinely span the globe.
Dagon Records, following their relocation from London, UK, to Portland, Oregon, US, has chosen to make their first release out of their new home city a CD for the New Leaders of the Eldritch Cult. The album features Dagon Records artists, as well as some from New York’s Alrealon Records, and from sister-label Sombre Soniks, based in the U.K. The title of the CD appropriately describes the creative movement in one phrase: The Art of Eldritch Noise, referencing Luigi Russolo’s call for musicians to embrace Futurist sensibilities, then tying the release almost directly to Lovecraft, who is sometimes referred to as “the master of eldritch horror”. The release features various experimental performers, including Arcaide (FR), Babalith (PT), Druhá Smrt (CZ), and Hell is Carbon, Benjamin Norman Pierce, The Strange Walls, and Seesar (US). All tracks are collaborations, and the sounds on CD are created using electronics, extended techniques on traditional instruments, or performances on homemade instruments and household items re-purposed for the making of the music on the release.
“We are very proud to be supporting this important and cutting-edge movement of Lovecraftian Futurism; and we are extremely pleased with the results of the collaboration between these amazing artists!” says Will Connor, spokesperson for Dagon Records. “This, too, is only the beginning. Dagon Records has plans to release approximately three New Leaders soundscape collections each year, as long as they want to work with us.”
The Art of Eldritch Noise was released digitally on the 23rd of November, 2016, with a physical CD of the album slated to be available and distributed in Spring of 2017.
